CTI Ecosystem Finance Scheme (EFS) is offered for developers and financiers of investments in natural infrastructures and ecosystems. The SCHEME builds on the most recent concepts and recommendations by industry thought leaders in investigating the possibilities how to apply the tools of economics in addressing the links between environmental, social and economic sustainability.
ESF has been built on the concept of the Payments for Environmental Services (PES) scheme. Natural infrastructures generate benefits via ecosystem services, such as clean air, good quality water, the beauty of the natural environment, biodiversity, etc., usually for a broad group of beneficiaries, including agriculture, forestry, manufacturing and service industries, as well as the broader public. PES-like investments, over 500 cases globally, are aimed at resulting in improved ecosystem services. The “greening” component of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is a PES-like scheme. As a key innovation, the SCHEME allows defining discrete revenue flows that enable private financing, in addition to conventional public financing vehicles.
CTI Ecosystem Finance Scheme is primarily offered for project developers, investment fund managers with a focus on opportunities in various sustainability related sectors, central and local governments, not-for-profit organizations and interest groups.
The SCHEME has been actualized for cases of improving the quality of waters: the model of regional investment in decentralized wastewater treatment in rural areas has been applied in selected catchment areas of river basins (further details: BLUE TANYA project)
